Mama Ayesha's has been a Washington DC institution since it was established in 1953. This family owned eatery prepares authentic Middle Eastern cuisine daily from scratch. Must have starters include the pureed garbanzo bean dip, hummus bil lahmah which is topped with ground lamb and pine nuts, the foole m'damas made with fava beans, tahini dressing and a hint of fresh garlic and topped with fresh tomatoes, as well a fattoush salad which is made with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, radishes, and pita chips topped with an olive oil and pomegranate dressing.
Main courses include our Mo-zat which is a glazed tender lamb shank baked in a fresh tomato stew, the Mujadarah made with mildly spiced rice and lentils topped with caramelized onions and served with yogurt, and the most popular menu item the mixed charcoal grill which includes beef, chicken, and lamb kabob served with grilled veggies over a bed of rice.
Mama Ayesha's is a Washingtonian Magazine's Best Bargain Award winner and is known for great food at reasonable prices. While dining you will be able to relax to the sounds of an oasis waterfall as well as admire the number of different relics from around the Middle East. The 400 year old gates from Egypt, and a Mother of Pearl Harem door from Malcolm Forbes palace in Tangiers to name a few. Your dining experience at this cozy, original and unique restaurant whether you're on a date or out with friends will be one to remember.
